Record high definition video with digital audio, using the Hauppauge Colossus PCI Express HD PVR. This PVR is engineered for making ultimate H.264 compressed recordings at resolutions up to 1080i AVCHD. It comes with HDMI input port which helps you to easily record HD video at up to 1080i from an un-encrypted HDMI source. This PVR can also records component video (YCrCb) from other video game consoles, cable TV and satellite set top boxes through its built-in IR blaster which instantly changes TV channels for scheduled recordings. Features:

  • Record high definition video using H.264 video encoding with digital audio. Colossus is an internal PCI Express board, full height, and runs with Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.
  • Includes a built-in high quality hardware H.264 high definition encoder, for high performance, high quality video recordings
  • Record high definition video at up to 1080i resolution. Also records standard definition video. Record at datarates from 1Mbs to 20Mbs.
  • Record your game play in HD (up to 1080i) with component video and digital audio (optical) from Xbox360 or PS3 game consoles.
  • Record your favorite TV programs from HD cable TV and satellite set top boxes. Colossus connects to most HD cable TV and satellite TV receivers with component video and optical digital audio. Stereo audio inputs are supported, too.
  • Burn your video game play or your favorite TV programs onto AVCHD disks in high definition using standard DVD media. These AVCHD disks can be played back on a blu-ray DVD player. Up to 2 hours of HD AVCHD video can be recorded on standard DVD-R disks at 5MBits/sec.
  • Create HD recordings which can be played back on the Xbox 360 and PS3
  • Includes Hauppauge's WinTV v7 TV application for automatic recording of TV programs from cable or satellite set top boxes
  • Includes Arcsoft ShowBiz to record video game play. Burn HD disks or upload video game play in HD to YouTube
  • Colossus has component video plus stereo and digital audio pass through, to allow HD recording and viewing at the same time.
  • NTSC and PAL support
  • HDMI input port included. If you have an un-encrypted HDMI video source, such as a digital SLR, you can record directly from this source.
    Note: most cable and satellite TV receivers do not support un-encrypted HDMI video.
  • Includes IR blaster and IR receiver/learn cable. Colossus can "learn" your cable TV or satellite remote control and can automatically change the channel on your set top box.

    • Note: the video input format determines the recorded format. For example, 1080i input records at 1080i, 720P records at 720P, etc. Any other format conversions needs to be done with the MediaConvert program (supplied).
  • NTSC or PAL supported

Note: when playing back video recordings made with the Colossus, a fast CPU and at least 256MB of graphics memory are needed.

Poor quality

Colors are off, sound has a buzzing noise in it as well. Installed, discovered flaws, removed, and re-installed in a different PCI Express slot, same issues.

Not as good as the HD PVR

All though it captures, it doesn't capture any better than other cards I have used. I thought this was hauppauge's version of the HD PVR only it was installed internally in the PC, eliminating the need for the USB connection. I was disappointed in the fact that unlike the HD PVR, you can not control the BIT rate of Capture (telling the unit the exact quality of the HD capture you want. The only choice you get is the omnibus fair, good and better for a selection. It's only saving grace, the only thing it can do that the HD PVR can't do, is capture through a HDMI port.

Best HD capture Card

I bought this product in september 2010 and never had issue. I have a HTPC with MediaPortal and everything run smooth. Since it's Live TV, I record from my STB 8 to 12 hours a day. Never had problems. Go for it if you want a HD HTPC with Live HD TV from STB. The colossus is a lot more reliable than his brother HD-PVR. Will buy again.

Video Very Choppy

When hooked to a TV Cable box through a HDMI cable the video and audio is VERY choppy. There is a beta fix on their site for those that have the problem but the fix is only about 40% effective. Recording with this fix running is still imposable. If your computer is fast I do not recommend this card.

Bad Card

After owning four other brands of Capture cards- I am in the streaming business. This card is one of the worst for the way high price. There is NO adjustment of incoming audio and in fact a regulated line level input distorts the capture every time regardless of the source through the analog inputs. For 189.00 which is high end these days that's a terrible answer to a big problem. It renders the card useless.
