“Quick Erase” only erases the information stored in the Lead-in area and data stored on the first track of the disc. As a result, a drive can not read the disc anymore, but with data recovery software there is a chance that some data can still be recovered from the parts of the disc that have not been overwritten.

Only compalint here is that I purchased two of these and they are not ide, they are SATA drives, the Sata cable is included.

Purchased two of these, one for and old IDE system the other for and old USB external enclosure. Excellent value does lightscribe and DVD RAM, Breathes life into and old IDE system.

This unit replaces a 4 year old Sony DVD burner that was simply worn out. The Lite-On unit is not as sensitive to touch regarding the drawer's tendency to retract on its own without warning (Thankfully). It seems to function as advertized.
