| D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme Gigabit Router With broadband internet being adopted in more homes each and every day, the idea of a home network becomes more enticing. As many households have more than one PC, the easiest and most popular way to share the home’s internet connection, as well as provide easy access to files on all connected PCs, is through a home network. This can be achieved through the use of a high-quality router such as the D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme Gigabit Router.
As simple an idea as this is, there are plenty of choices out there, each with their own slew of advantages and disadvantages. The most popular by far is the wireless network. With notebook PCs being as prevalent as they are; it only makes sense to set up a wireless home network if you are going to take the time to set one up in the first place.
The D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme Gigabit Router comes. It apparently can operate up to 14 times the speed and six times the range of an equivalent wireless G product because it is a draft 802.11n compliant device. It is also compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b networks. This device also offers gigabit LAN ports to keep up with your gigabit network which basically means that the data is smoothly transferred when the data gets to the router which then sends it to other networked computers. You can also see that the DIR-655 is certified to work with Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System.
Moving onto the DIR-655 itself, the glossy white finish gives the router a classy look. The triple antennas on the back should provide a strong enough signal for almost anyone. With a single logo on the top, the DIR-655 has a clean look that should fit in almost anywhere. Along the front, there are a number of lights to signify power, activity status, internet status, WLAN, WCN (USB wireless network setup) and 4 wired port LEDs. Looking around at the back, there is a large yellow sticker covering up the ports and stating that before you connect anything to the router, the setup disk should be ran first. When removed, we see the four gigabit Ethernet ports positioned between two of the three antennas. Moving over, we get to the internet port. This is where the cable from the modem is going to go into. Beside it is a USB port. This can either be used as a print server port as well as a place to use your wireless network setup thumb drive. To the right of the USB port, there is a reset button and the power jack.
The DIR-655 includes all the latest and advanced network security features including 128-bit encryption; WEP, WPA, and WPA2 security protocols; SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) and NAT (Network Address Translation) firewalls. These security features will prevent unauthorized access over a wireless network or from the Internet.
With D-link’s Intelligent QoS technology, it prioritizes both wired and wireless Internet traffic to enable an enhanced online gaming, browsing and communication experience. It is ideal also for streaming HD video or multiple applications simultaneously.

I don't recommend this product
I purchased this product on March 20,2013, it failed on June 10, 2013. It was easy to configure though I found wireless connectivity to be slow. The wireless portion failed and it took 4 phone calls, 5 technicians and 2 hours of my time on the phone for them to agree that it was defective. I have now been waiting more than 24 hrs for someone else to actually approve an exchange before I can send it back (at my cost ofcourse).

Worked well for its purpsose
It was easy to use and set up was not difficult. Please note that the antennas are SMA (mini-coax) not coax connection size.

Great Router
This router is great, especially for the price. Has a lot of advanced features, but is still easy to set up. Was configured and online in less than 10 minutes. Has great range and works very well even with numerous computers, cellphones and Xbox operating at different modes, G and N. I would highly recommend this router as this is the 2nd one of I've purchased. After setting one up for my Mom at her house I bought one for myself. Thanks Tigerdirect!

Nice Router, Great Price
Finally upgraded my wireless router after a decade of using a cheaper model. Great interface that is simple to setup. Having multiple devices connected I have noticed a huge increase in download speeds. Signal coverage increased and have a faster connection when sitting on the patio deck. Would recommend to others.

Prob. with Wireless
This router made me learn a lot about wifi signals :) If you don't use wifi then it is a great router. Otherwise it is a good gigabit LAN router or a gigabit switch.
