Excellent product be prepared for that disaster

I purchased an older model (this one) because it met all of my needs and was on sale for 209. Iosafe has a newer model the G3 with USB 3.0 and fanless for those who need faster transfer speeds. Built solid to last a long time. Very simple and easy to install. If you want to back up your OS you will need software that does that this is an external drive. This is a product that will let you sleep at night secure that your data is safe.

Massive storage plus peace of mind

I bought this to use with TimeMachine as a replacement for an older and smaller backup drive. Straight out of the box I reformatted it via OS X's Disk Utility and it was ready to roll. Speed seems to be fine, though I would have preferred it had USB 3.0 or Firewire (hence only 4 stars for performance). Overall, a very well-made device that lends some much needed peace of mind. Highly recommended.

Disaster Protection at Regular Drive Prices

The drive performs like any other USB 2.0 drive for speed- around 350 MB per sec sustained on my laptop using Ping. However, this drive has the advantage of being air cooled which prolongs the drive's life and it has a heavy metal case with ceramic fireproofing (like a firesafe) to help the drive survive a house fire. It is also rated for water submersion (also important for floods and fire). And it can be bolted or locked down using a hole in the plate steel to prevent theft during a break-in. I ran the drive for about 48 hours straight to do back-ups after it arrived and it ran cool. It does not come with any software, but I used Toucan in file-sync mirror mode(run as administrator) and a CD boot-disk of Ping for a complete drive image. There are other well-known options for free or cost effective back-up software- just search for Best Free Backup Software and 20 Most Reliable Windows Backup Programs for lists.
